Master Herpetologist Program Reviews
The Master Herpetologist Program, which started in 2018 as a live course in Atlanta, has been offered as a global online class since 2020. We have welcomed thousands of students to the world's first online college-level course in Herpetology, that is open to all. This course has continued to be a resource for students seeking education and training in herpetology, which becomes more valuable each year as more universities retire this course from their course catalogs. Those who pass the course and become certified are invited to join the private global online Master Herpetologists network on Slack to continue conversations, share achievements, career opportunities, and also become Teaching Assistants for the Master Herpetologist Program, and any of the other online classes in AF's growing course catalog.

I would recommend this course to every herpetology enthusiast, including folks who may feel like they know a lot already, and folks who may feel intimidated or like they don't know enough. The material is intensive, but the instructors and environment are friendly, and the assignments are achievable. The post-graduation community and networking opportunities are amazing!

Such an important and pretty comprehensive and eye opening look into such a special field. From taxonomy to diseases to ephemeral wetlands and amphibian biodiversity, there’s so much to learn and be fascinated by out there! As an animal care specialist working for two zoological institutions, this program has been essential for me in not only learning about herpetology and the animals, but being able to think critically in the field and using education to change negative perceptions about reptiles and ambitions to a broad audience.

This course was amazing and above and beyond my expectations! As a reptile keeper for more that 40 years, I knew quite something but this course really helped me to understand way more about reptiles and amphibians.

The courses I took were SO great, not just for my (large!) reptile family, but they’ve also made me exponentially more competent in my business. For anyone who is even remotely interested in amphibians and reptiles, courses through AF are a must. The instructors are world-class researchers, scholars, and presenters. I can’t wait for more schooling!!!

This program is absolutely vital to increasing your herpetological knowledge base. The courses are very in depth and you take a deep dive into all things herpetology, from evolutionary lineages and beginnings, to the global biodiversity and ecology of reptiles and amphibians. I highly recommend signing up for the course, you won’t regret it, and you’ll learn more about reptiles and amphibians whether it’s in person or online.

I owe a lot to this course and to AF. Where I live there are not many avenues to get herp related learning experiences, so I was extremely thankful to hear about the Master Herpetologist Program. Everyone at AF is super kind and supportive and genuinely care a whole lot about the quality of your education with them. Since taking this course I've also taken their husbandry course, and even flew down to AF to participate in the Level 1 Venomous Training. If you're thinking about taking the course, I recommend giving it a whirl. I guarantee you'll enjoy it!

The Master Herpetologist Program was an incredible program to go through. It's easily comparable to a college course on herpetology. While it covers a lot of material, there are great resources to help you succeed. Having both taken the class and volunteered as a TA, I whole heartedly recommend anyone interested in herpetology to take this class.

I had been looking for more education on the biology of reptiles and amphibians for a while, when I stumbled onto this remarkable gem of a course. I thoroughly enjoyed the modules, the instructors, and the materials. They were informative and even better, they were engaging and thought provoking. I learned so much in this course, and plan to attend more from the organization! Wonderful experience.

The Master Herpetologist Program is one of the best classes I have ever taken! It is full of so much information that I am able to utilize daily as a reptile keeper and educator. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is interested in herpetology!

I absolutely loved taking the master herpetology course. The course goes so in-depth about both reptiles and amphibians explaining their anatomy, behavior, geographical location, and conservation status. The lectures in this course are phenomenal, you get to hear about these incredible animals from experts in those fields. Also, the zoom calls that take place throughout the course are a great way to connect with more people with the same interest as well as talk to the instructors.

I came into this program with what I considered a good deal of self-taught knowledge (a herp enthusiast since I could walk, soaking up info however I could, always going straight to the herp house and the zoo, etc.) This course really built on that knowledge to make me even more enthusiastic about being a herp advocate. And I finally have a real, solid foundation for my soapbox! :D

I highly recommend this program to anyone, no matter their skill level in herpetology. I have learned so much in all three programs, and this program has turned my hobby into a passion. I can’t get enough of it! I can’t wait until they offer another program!

This program has been wonderful and has helped increase my knowledge in the herpetology field. As a reptile keeper and breeder of 15 years, I knew some things about reptiles and their husbandry. But with Amphibian Foundation’s Master Herpetologist Course, I learned taxonomy, anatomical structures of herps, venom toxicity (my favorite), and the list could continue. I would recommend Amphibian Foundation to every herpetology enthusiast that would like to pursue a higher education.

The Master Herpetologist program is an absolutely wonderful course for any and all people that are interested in reptiles and amphibians! It really made me think a lot about my day to day interactions with our world and how I can be doing more to help the organisms around me. I look forward to taking more courses from the Amphibian Foundation and helping in this community as much as I can!

Five gold stars. An absolute delight! I would take this course again. The material is mindfully presented and easy to follow. As a bonus, the certificate looks lovely in my reptile room!

I took this class during the pandemic, so while I don't remember every lecture and every fact, this class showed me my love of evolution and taxonomy, and now I'm in college majoring in Evolutionary Biology. Additionally, it has made me a better herp keeper by allowing me to understand the biology of my pets more deeply!

Completing the Master Herpetology Program was one of the best decisions I ever made! The knowledge that you gain is unmatched and the connections you make are phenomenal. Mark and his team do a great job making the material digestible for people of all levels of herpetology background as well as creating a welcoming and open environment for everyone.

If you're wanting to learn about herpetology, this is absolutely the program for you! The Master Herpetologist program and its accompanying classes are absolutely incredible learning opportunities. The lecture topics are thorough and varied, and immensely valuable to both private keepers and professionals alike. The Amphibian Foundation presents a welcome and supportive online environment for both learning and for networking after the class js complete, and it's been a joy to stay involved with them over the years. This program was a true springboard for me to move from being a private keeper into a professional reptile-related career, and I can't thank the Amphibian Foundation enough for providing it!

I cannot say enough about how amazing this course is. I am a zookeeper who works with reptiles and amphibians and I still walked away with a better understanding of these amazing animals, their history, and their place in the world. This is a college level course that is approachable and easy to absorb no matter your background or interest level. 10 out of 10
