Venomous AF

Our venomous programs were created in response to the widespread negativity surrounding Copperheads in our community. Much of this fear stems from misconceptions and a lack of understanding. In fact, when we first founded the Amphibian Foundation, we received dozens of unsolicited complaints about Copperheads (not an amphibian), highlighting an urgent need for education and outreach in our community. This presented a unique opportunity to foster coexistence between our Atlanta community and the wildlife that shares our neighborhoods, including venomous snakes like Copperheads.

From our experience, many adults hold deeply rooted fears or even hatred toward snakes, often leading to harmful actions against these creatures. Our educational programs aim to inspire the next generation to view snakes, including venomous species, through a new lens. The positive reactions we’ve seen from children and young adults reinforce our belief that fear and hostility toward snakes are learned behaviors. By nurturing curiosity and teaching respect for these remarkable animals, we can encourage a safer and more peaceful coexistence with wildlife. For adults, the Amphibian Foundation offers hands-on programs that provide a rare opportunity to get up close with venomous snakes. Participants learn how to safely handle and better understand these often-misunderstood creatures, helping to break down barriers of fear and misinformation.
